Nature Explorers Winter Camp

Nature Explorers Winter Camp is for the young person who enjoys the natural world.  Our goal is to foster children’s love of nature in a fun, safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive environment.

February 19-23, 2024

Camp for children ages 6 – 11.

Drop off 8:45 – 9:00 am,  Pick up 3:00 – 3:15 pm

Monday – Art for Animals
Create edible arts and crafts to leave as gifts for birds and animals.  Decorate the land and trees at BEEC and bring something home for the animals that live near you.

Tuesday – Tracking the Wild Ones
Who made these tracks? Nature detectives follow clues left by animals to solve tracking mysteries.  We will learn how to recognize some tracks and signs of local animals.

Wednesday – Sanctuary in the Snow
Where do animals find shelter during a snowstorm?  We’ll go exploring and see if we find any animal homes.  Working together we’ll build our own winter shelter, if there’s snow we’ll build a quinzhee or snow cave.

Thursday – Warmth Even in Winter
How do animals keep warm through the cold winter? What animals live in this forest and what do they eat? We’ll explore how animals survive freezing temperatures, try out these strategies ourselves, and make a fire and hemlock tea to warm ourselves.

Friday – Winter Wonders
To wrap up the week, join us for a fun day of exploration and play guided by the offerings of nature and the interests of the group.  We could follow a trail, play predator prey games, and more.
