No one at Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center (BEEC) knows when the Stockwell farmhouse was built, but if you look hard enough, you will find dates carved into boulders in the woods nearby that go back as far as 1799, so we guess that at least some of the house was built that long ago. Little wonder the time has come for renovation.

For more than thirty years, BEEC has invited the public to the fields and forests of this special place. We have introduced children, from toddlers to teens, to the wonders of nature.

While 200-year-old farm buildings are charming, they do not meet the needs of our dynamic organization. We need our buildings to reflect our values, to fit the landscape, and to be environmentally friendly and welcoming in all seasons.

BEEC hired an amazing team of contractors to conduct a deep-energy retrofit of the Stockwell Farmhouse to provide a healthy, environmentally friendly, accessible building that is inspiring and welcoming to our community and serves our organizational needs.

Phases 1 & 2 of this project have been completed. Water and mold remediation is done, the foundation repaired, the building gutted, the walls rebuilt with more insulation, the windows & doors replaced, and cold-climate heat pumps and water heater installed.  The building has been transformed into an accessible and energy-efficient environmental center with office space for BEEC staff.

We still need your help with this project, though.  We welcome you to help bring BEEC home by making a gift to the Farmhouse Learning Center Transformation fund.

Together, we can help BEEC grow the next enlightened generation of environmental stewards.

As the new heart of the BEEC campus, the farmhouse will:

  • Provide accessible space for all who visit
  • Create an inspiring classroom, conducive to learning
  • Improve energy efficiency and serve as an educational tool about energy efficient buildings
  • Provide a healthy on-site workspace for staff
  • Increase collaborative opportunities with other community groups by hosting workshops and co-sponsored events in a welcoming versatile meeting space
  • Create opportunities for increased revenue through renting space for meetings and events
